This poem is from a 2019 creative writing course; I thought I was clever by making a poem about hats. I realize that hats are a niche accessory today, other than baseball caps, but I based this on a meme to impress my peers. My professor did not like it as much and had me write another.
It is not a powerful poem, nor is it particularly inspired. Still, it was a vital lesson on what should motivate me to write.
Fashion Advice from a Knowledgeable Hat
A Hat is a poem that talks about the fashion of heads,
Walking along the slope of life with whispered musings like:
“A Bowler hat would look good with that jacket”;
“I love all hats; a trilby, panama, cloche, beret,
cowboy, bucket, fascinator, but never a fedora”;
“A cloche could be worn to town or to the theatre,
a panama could be worn to the beach or gardening,
while a beret can be worn to an exhibit.
But a fedora can only be worn to disrespect women, and that is not fashionable”.
